A character that is Dying has less than 0 HP.
At the end of every round, a dying character that has not stabilized takes 1 point of damage. However, a dying character has a 10% chance to stabilize each round as well, rolled before taking damage. There are some feats and abilities that increase this % chance.
A Heal check can easily stabilize a dying character.
A character is Dead when his HP reaches (0 - his Constitution score).
