Black Bear
Black bears are solitary, omnivorous animals that live in temperate forests. Their diet consists largely of berries, roots, and insects, and they weigh in from 120 to 550 pounds. Black bears tend to be wary and avoid direct contact with humans. It is somewhat common for bears to raid the food stashes of travelers and those that live on the edge of the wilds, but in such encounters, black bears are usually easily scared off. The only point where contact with a black bear may be quite dangerous is when a mother bear is trying to protect her cubs.

Combat
When threatened, or when very hungry, black bears will attack viciously. However, if they meet with considerable resistance, or are significantly hurt, they will fall back and run away.
Special Abilities
Scent
The Scent ability grants black bears the ability to sense creatures by smell within 30 feet. If the black bear is upwind of a target, that range increases to 60 feet.
Additionally, black bears can use the Awareness skill to detect scents from beyond the immediate range of this ability, such as for following a creature's trail, or in finding an object through smell.
