Disease
There are two types of disease - Short-term and Chronic. Short-term diseases can be cured and, if they do not kill, usually go away on their own. Chronic diseases cannot be cured, though they can usually be treated, and sometimes prevented if caught within the incubation period.

Catching Short-Term Diseases
Short-term diseases can be caught in any number of ways. First of all, there is a % chance (default 2%) each week that a character will catch a short-term disease - one from the "mild" list. This percent will often go up in certain regions or cities with notoriously bad sanitation. Moving into an area with an increased % chance necessitates an immediate roll - one need not stay there a week.

Coming into contact with a diseased material (including potentially eating or drinking it) necessitates a fortitude save to prevent contraction of the disease.
