Damage reduction reduces the damage a character takes. Any damage reduction value reduces damage by a certain amount. However, almost all damage reduction can be bypassed, meaning that the damage received is not reduced in any way.
The syntax for writing this is: DR(damage reduced/bypassed)
For example, DR of 5/slashing reduces the damage from all attacks not from slashing weapons by 5. Some DR cannot be bypassed, and it is written as such: 5/-
