A bracer shield is a shield that straps directly to the forearm, leaving the hand free for combat. The shield arm is left open and may be used to wield a weapon and perform checks, etc. The shield does impede movement, so a -2 penalty is imposed upon all attacks and checks made using this arm. This applies to weapons using both arms, such as bows. The penalty applies to damage as well. This penalty remains as long as the shield is strapped to the arm, regardless of whether it is being actively used or not. Similarly, if the arm in question is used, the shield's bonus to AC is lost for the round.

Naturally, this shield is too small to use for a shield bash. Any such attempt is effectively an unarmed strike.
