By attaching spikes to a shield, one gains a number of benefits. First, shield bashes deal 1d4 more damage. Second, the spikes help to both deflect blows and tend to encourage people to stay back, affording a +1 to AC. Last, the shield spikes may be used as if they were a light weapon in a grapple, though only the 1d4 from the spikes is dealt, and not the normal damage as well.
Spikes may not be added to Cloth wraps, Cloaks, or Leather shields. It costs an additional 2 uV to add spikes to an existing shield - the price listed is the additional price for a shield made originally with spikes.
