Padded Armor

Craft DC: 18 (tailoring) or 24 (sailmaking)

Padded armor is the simplest form of armor known to mankind. It consists of two or more layers of cloth with padding between the layers, quilted and sewn together for protection. It is crude, poor protection, but better than nothing. As such, it is worn by the poor and unskilled - street gangs, militia, bandits, and so on.

Because of its lack of durability, this armor requires a craft check of 18 (tailoring or sailmaking) every day it is worn for more than an hour to prevent it from wearing out. If this check is not made, it permanently loses 1 HP, bypassing hardness. For this reason wearers of padded armor will often carry extra suits - they are cheap and do not weigh that much.
