A leather shield is essentially leather stretched over a wooden frame. It works fine against bludgeoning and slashing weapons, but when a piercing weapon is used, there is a 50% chance that it will deal damage to the shield. To avoid this, the wielder may choose to forgo use of the shield to avoid this danger, losing the bonus to AC. A failed arrow deflection also has a 50% chance to damage the shield.
This shield cannot be used to bash.
