There are two types of disease - Short-term and Chronic. There is also Gangrene. Short-term diseases can be cured and, if they do not kill, usually go away on their own. Chronic diseases cannot be cured, though they can usually be treated, and sometimes prevented if caught within the incubation period.

Short-Term Diseases

Short-Term Diseases have three characteristics - An incubation period, a recovery period, and any number of effects.

Chronic Diseases

Short-Term Diseases have two main characteristics - An incubation period, and any number of effects. They all also have specific rules for treatment.

Catching Short-Term Diseases

Short-term diseases can be caught in any number of ways. First of all, there is a % chance (default 2%) each week that a character will catch a short-term disease - one from the "mild" list. This percent will often go up in certain regions or cities with notoriously bad sanitation. Moving into an area with an increased % chance necessitates an immediate roll - one need not stay there a week. Survival checks can reduce this chance.

Being in the presence of someone with the disease has a similar chance. Diseases are usually most infectious during the incubation period.

Coming into contact with a diseased material (including potentially eating or drinking it) necessitates a fortitude save to prevent contraction of the disease.

Catching Chronic Diseases

Most Chronic diseases have a specific cause.
