AP Cost: 2

The Counter action allows a character to take advantage of his attacker's failures and set up an opportunity to reverse them.

If a character is attacked by the opponent he is facing and the attack value falls below the defender's AC + Counter Bonus, the defender may choose to counter the attack as an Immediate Action of Opportunity.

To counter an attack, both the original attacker and the counterer roll a Counter Check. The character with the higher check wins.

Counter Check: 1d20 + Agility + BAB + Counter Bonus

If the defender's Counter Check result meets or exceeds the attacker's Counter Check result, the attacker is rendered Flat-footed and Open for a single Combative Action from the defender.

  • If the original attack's value is above the defender's AC but below the defender's AC + Counter Bonus and the defender fails the counter check, the original attack hits.
  • A character cannot counter an attack that he receives due to him being Open.

In order to be able to Counter attacks, a character must have at least 1 point of Combat Ability assigned to the Counter Bonus.
